I need advice on a quick and dirty database that can handle high volume
and has a good user interface.  It doesn't need to be relational but
some functionality like pop-ups would be nice. 

This is for a rolodex type application and I would not be adverse to a
good mail list type program as long as it could accomidate a lot of 
weird stuff like Japaneese phone numbers, etc.

I have been working with R:Base but the system is SO BUGGY that a 
large database has no chance!!
