In all of the A3000 models, the CPUs (68030 and 6888x) are soldered and surface mounted. The crystals are also soldered. This means that the direct upgrade (by replacing the CPUs and the crystal) is very, very difficult. However, I have an upgrade for the A3000/16 that would make you much happier than a simple upgrade from 16Mhz to 25Mhz. The 16Mhz and 25Mhz versions of the A3000 only differ in the CPUs and the crystal. If you have a card for the CPU slot that has its own 25Mhz clock, and you plug this card into the A3000/16, your 16Mhz A3000 instantly becomes a 25Mhz machine! This means that you can buy the A3000/16 now to save money, and then upgrade to a 25Mhz 68040 system with Commodore's 68040 card for the A3000 when it comes out. > >4. Which DOS ROMs will I find in a new A3000/25-50? 2.0X ? The A3000 currently comes with AmigaDOS 2.0, but not in ROM. 2.0 has not been committed to ROM yet, for any Amigas. When 2.0 is committed to ROM, all A3000s will come with the 2.0 ROMs (and, as a result, 512K more of usable memory). >-- > > - Scott >------------------------------------------------------------------------------ >M.
