We just couldn't afford the hardware for a home system ($1.5Million+), so we bought UNIX boxes and Amigas instead. I started on Multics in high school, when the Altair 8800 was "the hot box", and the Apple II was brand new, and I'll be 30 RSN, so we're not all that old. The computer industry has just been *that fast*. Repeat after me: every single *neat* thing you can do in an operating system was either already tried, and used, or tried and discarded by Multics developers :-) This does not apply to graphical user interfaces, however. :-( By the way, there was a near revolt at MIT several years ago; the faculty and staff refused to let them pull the plug on the Multics until they had a replacement for "Forum", which is the conferencing system that Usenet dreams of being someday. 0.5 tongue in cheek.
