I just rebooted the machine (because of an unkillable hung NFSD process that was locking out the network!) after a proper shutdown, and now the display comes up with vertical black bars, rather like looking at the screen through prison bars. I rebooted again, and the display looks the same. Totally unusable now. Sound familiar? Any fix?
