Dell Computer Corp.  said it cut prices on nine of its desktop and laptop
computers by $100 to $900.  Dell Computer is known for its direct-sales
marketing, said that most of the price cuts were $100 to $200 per system, or
2% to 11%, depending on the model.  However, price cuts of laptop computers
using the Intel 80386SX chip are more substantial - $400 to $500, or 12% to
13%.  A top-of-the-line computer system, using Intel's 80486 chip was
reduced $900, or 17%, to $4,299.
