In a nutshell: He got it (the disk images) on at approx 3 am yesterday PST. People saw it, they went nuts, and before he could set the protections to allow for transfers, the machine went down. This happened several times, so the site is now down for at least a few more hours so that they can install software and possibly hardware upgrades. He will post to .mac.programmer and comp.sys.mac.announce when the site comes back up. Funny side note: I first heard about ftp.apple.com a few days ago, and when I took a look around I noticed Mark's README file. The quote that stuck in my mind was, "Firm believers in using our own technology, the server is a Mac IIx running A/UX." He went on to say that any IIfx upgrade offers would be "pleasantly [sic] accepted." What ran through my mind (and probably all of yours, too -- hindsight being 20/20) when I saw that was, "Boy -- that machine isn't long for this world." What chance did a mere IIx have with 6 meg file sets against hundreds or *thousands* of determined FTPers? I wonder if it actually started smoking, or if it just quietly expired. :-> -mike ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Michael T.
