Right... Reproducable crashes Message-ID: <21403@brahms.udel.edu> Date: 15 May 91 17:44:32 GMT Organization: University of Delaware Lines: 40 7.0 Rock Solid? When they say stuff like that, they raise your expectations. I have had it crash several times on me since I got System 7 yesterday. Several I can reproduce. 1) Booted Disk Tools to reformat my HD. Couldn't wait to go through install, so I played around a little. Turned on ballon help, chose Get Info on an icon, move cursor to inactive window. Got a -192 error. I shut down, bought it back up, did same actions, got same result. 2) Ran the disk setup program. (After shut down and reboot from above). Fiddled with custom partitioning. Went to delete the main partition from drive. Crashed with an address error. Couldn't reproduce this one though. 3) Here's an interesting one. I made an alias of the trash. Wanted to put it into my root window for easier access. Double click on trash alias in root window, entire machine freezes. I reproduced this error THREE times. (Well, once it worked, but a second double click did hang it). It seems to work if aliased trash is on desktop Particulars: Mac II cx w/ 4 megs primary, 8 megs virtual, no inits or apps running (hell, haven't even reinstalled any yet!) Other than that, System 7 is amazing. I love it. Leaves Windows WAY behind now (and I use that regularly as well). If future apps start using ballon help, my job will be a snap. SOmeone calls for support, I can just say "turn on the $#%#$% ballon help" ! :-) I hope I don't see any more crashes though... Maybe I should have waited for 7.0.1 -- deserves Apple right for not letting my beta test! :-) BTW: Don't anyone suggest virus. I reformatted HD and installed from locked masters. I have not re-installed any applications yet.... If anyone is brave, I'd appreciate knowing if anyone can reproduce these crashes (particular the trash alias one) on different configs. -- >>>---> Ken Weaverling >>>----> weave@brahms.udel.edu
