It was supposed to be >out yesterday..." After discussing this further, he told me that the >only way to get it was to buy the whole package. I asked if I could just >bring in some high dens, but he said no. Is this true? This dealer is unfortunately experiencing what most of us are... System 7 is in extremely short supply. We only got TWO of the Personal Upgrade Kits in time for the release, and only because we paid for overnight shipping. As a result, we haven't been able to SELL any copies of the official package. We instead made copies for people to purchase. Not all dealers will do this, though... dealers are under no OBLIGATION to provide anything other than the Apple product versions of the upgrades, the Personal Upgrade Kit ($99) and the Group Upgrade Kit ($349). It's simply something that we CAN do, since we are licensed to distribute the software. Like the campus computer store employee who followed up to your posting, my company is selling pre-copied sets of system disks ($20 for a set, which is actually based on our $2 per disk single-disk price). We ARE letting people copy the disks if they REALLY want to use their own disks, but since we charge for computer time, it's not free. Good luck getting System 7! I have no doubt you'll find a dealer or a licensed user group who'll provide an inexpensive copy for you. -- Mark H.
