	and the "pickynness" about the exact size of the inconsistency
	varies with the font generated.  Would any METAFONTition have
	a recommendation as to what could be amiss?  [I think there was
	something in the available-TeX-fonts-list article about the 
	need to build those fonts without the "plain" base preloaded,
	but attempts at running `inimf' dirrectly on the distributed
	files fails miserably as well.]
