Martin Bormann is appointed Chancellor of the Nazi Party, succeeding Rudolf
Hess.

Axis troops repel a British attempt to lift the siege of Tobruk.

The Mufti of Jerusalem, now in exile, broadcasts from Baghdad urging all
Islamic countries to rise and fight against Britain.

The U-98 sinks the 10500-ton British armed merchant cruiser Salopian
southeast of Greenland.  Meanwhile, the Italian torpedo boat Pleiadi sinks
the submarine HMS Undaunted off Tripoli.
