Lines: 18 From the keyboard of blu@millipore.com (Brian Utterback): :I may soon be in a position to influence a vendor to include PERL in their :software distribution. Before I can argue that this would be a good thing I :need some information. First, how many workstation vendors are currently :(or plan in the near future) shipping PERL? Second, why should a vendor :ship PERL? And last (directed mostly at Larry) what are the ramifications :(i.e. licensing restrictions) of shipping PERL? Dell plans to ship it with the next release of SVR4 (later this year). The main reason why we plan to ship it is because there has been significant interest, and not everyone that purchases UNIX from us has access to the source and/or is familiar with the software development system. We distribute the OS on tape, so the hit is small (or practically non-existent) on distribution cost. -- Randy Howard !'s:uunet!dell!mustang!jrh Dell Computer Corp. @'s:jrh@mustang.dell.com
