Forgive me if this is the wrong newsgroup ...

I was wondering if someone out there would be able to brief me on the
happenings with BITFTP:  why it's not working, who shut it off, why, and
the implications behind it.  Also, is there another service of the type
that I can turn to?  Will BITFTP ever see the light of day again (ie
be restored to working order)?
