Well, I'm sure you've seen this before:

If you make a lemming build a bridge too close to a fella lemming that is
blocking, he will turn around and build the other way.

First of all, you should count up how many lemmings you need to do the job and
block the rest off.  Once these fellas are through, then let the rest come
come along.

Pretty much everything else is timing.
