Subject: TURN COMPUTER OFF OR LEAVE ON?

Does anyone have a definitive answer to the question of whether it's
best to turn your computer off when not using, or leave it on ... in
terms of equipment longevity?

My intuitive instinct is to turn off, since when running the hard
disk is in motion and mechanical things tend to wear out the more used.
On the other hand, I've heard that transistors last longer when left
on.  Does anyone have a definitive answer?
