I tried and thought I had reproduced this problem. However, when I restored 2.3, I couldn't launch it either from a saved set. So, I rebuilt my desktop and now can launch 2.4 from a saved set. Whatever the problem was, it was apparently not caused directly by 2.4, though the presence of multiple versions of the same program may have confused the desktop.
