HD Problem (w/ Apple HD & SE/30) Keywords: HD, Hard Disk, Problem, SE/30, Quantum, Apple, Sucks Message-ID: <1991May20.040931.27545@umbc3.umbc.edu> Date: 20 May 91 03:57:54 GMT Sender: newspost@umbc3.umbc.edu (News posting account) Reply-To: ehanson@umbc1.umbc.edu Organization: UMBC University of Maryland Baltimore county - Baltimore, MD, US Lines: 28 News-Software: VAX/VMS VNEWS 1.3-4 Howdy. My SE/30 has recently been having trouble booting up from the hard disk. The grey opening screen (with "The Noise (tm)" ) appears, and the HD light goes on for a few seconds, then off for a few seconds, then on for a few, etc. But it doesn't boot up. The instant I put a floppy in the floppy drive, the hard disk makes a noise (I think it is unparking, but what do I know?), then ejects the floppy (because there is no system on it), and the hard disk boots up, and life is once again good. This happens only when I boot after the computer has been off for a while, and only happens maybe 10% of the time. This isn't a huge problem, but it is bugging me. Has anybody else had this problem? Is it something I should be worried about? Should I make a pilgrimage to Graceland? (How'd that get here?) Thanks. (By the way, I've got an SE/30 with a replaced FDHD, Apple (Quantum) 40MB internal HD, System 6.0.5, MultiFinder, '83 Nissan Sentra (?????) ). Seeya!
