While debugging some new network code, I noticed that 'ping' does not
correctly function when given a size which is odd.  It looks like the
ping program is generating incorrect ICMP checksums for these
odd-sized ICMP echo-request packets.  Even pinging the loopback
interface fails (of course, I first suspected the new code that I was
working on!)

Time to dig out the 4.3 RENO version, I guess.
