The one above SCSI and OD drive connectors is for internal
2.8MB floppy drive.  There is another connector (whitish on
our boards) which is for adding RAM for DSP chip 56001.

That is for NBIC (NeXT Bus Interface Chip).

This worries me a bit.  I heard somewhere that the laser diode
will last longer if you keep it cool.  Are we risking shortened
lives for the diode by reversing the fan?

I haven't seen any ill effects of reversing the fan so far, but
am I likely to get trouble if I install NextDimension in the
old cube with the reversed fan?

There is a cleaning kit for the drive and the media.
These should be available from NeXT or your NeXT outlet.
There apparently is no EDU discount for these items.
At last weeks BaNG meeting, a user of the kit said "It works."
