S.A.W. is the abbreviation for "Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam" which is the arabic for which has the same meaning as above but said only to prophets (the R.A.A. is usually used for Sahabah (Companions of the prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)) As far as the considerations for being a Muslim or not, the first step is to bear witness that there is only one god (allah) and that Muhammad (S.A.W.) is his messenger. But this is not enough since there are many duties that a muslim has to perform and many things that he should refrain from. Acts that a muslim may do may get him/her out of Islam even though he/she beleives or says the shahadah (there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger). This is according to Islam (and by the way there is no more than one Islam but there are different opinions in Islam). About saying Shahadah in front of two Muslims (the number two) I didn't hear of that and I have to check it, if you could please supply your references.
