This has been routine at many airports for the last several years. I am always asked to make my beeper go "beep", and make my computer (if I'm carrying one) show a startup screen. This has happened to me at Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Phoenix, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, and several other airports over the last four years or so.
