Message-ID: <1991May26.221841.1@cc.helsinki.fi> Date: 26 May 91 20:18:41 GMT Sender: news@klaava.Helsinki.FI (Uutis Ankka) Organization: University of Helsinki Lines: 28 Hi, I'm a complete novice to Minix, but would like to set up some kind of an nix system on some 286's a have hanging around, and think MINIX would be the perfect solution, but I am not shure whether the software I need really exists out there? The following computers would be used: Four 286's with 640 k RAM each, booting from floppy disks, but can be equipped with hard-disks, and a 8-bit Novell ethernet card each. One 286 with 2.6 M of RAM and two 20 Meg MFM harddisks, and maybe a bigger SCSI-drive will be added, currently running dedicated NetWare 2.15 with a 8-bit ethernet card. Is there a way of leaving NetWare on the server and access the files from minix on the other machines in the LAN? Will the system be reasonably fast if I put minix on each of the 5 286's and use one of them as the main file-server, is it even possible? I was thinking of running a BBS on the system.
