I submitted a malloc replacement library that performed those kinds of
checks on malloced data.  It was posted to c.s.u last year at patchlevel 1.
The packages is currently at patchlevel 3 (patches were submitted, but I
have yet to see them appear).  If you need the entire package, or just
the patches, let me know & I will send them to you.
