In a self-reply....

I was able to solve the problem WITHOUT loosing any functionality in
my setup.  I simply dumped the Retro.SCSI INIT and the problem has gone
away!

I am doing backups with FileShare active on the whole HD while QuickMail Server,
Internet Router 2.0, cTree database server, QM Administrator AND Retrospect
1.2 are all running at the same time.
