OpenWindows, by default, gives you a .xinitrc containing the line

xmodmap -e 'keysym F1 = Help'

This should just map F1 to be the Help key but seems to have some subtle
side effects for reasons I don't understand.  If you comment this out the
Help key will probably start to behave itself.
