Walick pointed out the dateok.c function in C news. Geoff Collyer and Henry Spencer of C News fame (Geoff authored the dateok.c function, along with Mark Moraes and Rich Walies via Rayan Zachariassen) Jon Postel sent me information compiled by Gary Dixon , Jim Falksen and Gary M. Palter of the Multics project, and John Colville of NSWIT, Australia. This compilation includes two references: Dobyns, Zipporah Pottenger, Ph.D. and MacGregor, Marcian B. "The Astrology Annual Reference Book." 1981. Michelsen, Neil F. "The American Ephemeris, 1971 to 1980." Nickolay Saukh of JV Dialogue, Moscow, USSR supplied information about Moscow time zones. The anonymous authors of the BSD timezone() function I welcome corrections and additions. I would like to hear from any New Zealander who can clear up my confusion about NZDT -- is it GMT+1300 or GMT-1100? Is GMT+1300 even a legal offset? How does GMT+1300 affect date calculation? I also am uncertain about HST and HDT. One source says they are whole-hour zones; another, half-hour. Since the center of Hawaii is about 157 degrees West, I think that they are half-hour zones. However, a historical note I have found says the half-hour zones were abandoned in 1947. [Compiler's apology: please note that I don't endorse in any way the use of time zone abbreviations in mail headers. This list just acknowledges that the abbreviations are there.] Vic Abell Tue May 28 14:35:38 EST 1991 Zone GMT + Description ACSST 10:30 Central Australian Summer ACST 9:30 Central Australian Standard ADT -3:00 Atlantic Daylight AESST 11:00 Eastern Australian Summer AEST 10:00 Eastern Australian Standard AHST -10:00 Alaska-Hawaii Standard AST -4:00 Atlantic Standard AT 2:00 Azores AWSST 8:00 Western Australian Summer AWST 7:00 Western Australian Standard BRA -3:00 Brazil BST 1:00 British Summer (also Brazil Standard) BST -3:00 Brazil Standard (also British Summer) BT 3:00 Baghdad (also Bering) BT -11:00 Bering (also Baghdad) CADT 10:30 Central Australian Daylight CAST 9:30 Central Australian Standard CAT -10:00 Central Alaskan CCT 8:00 China Coast CDT -5:00 Central Daylight CET 1:00 Central European CET DST 2:00 Central European Daylight CST -6:00 Central Standard DNT 1:00 Dansk Normal EAST 10:00 East Australian Standard EDT -4:00 Eastern Daylight EET 2:00 Eastern European EET DST 3:00 Eastern European Daylight EMT 1:00 Norway EST -5:00 Eastern Standard FST 2:00 French Summer FWT 1:00 French Winter GMT 0:00 Greenwich GST 10:00 Guam Standard (also Greenland Standard) GST -3:00 Greenland Standard (also Guam Standard) HDT -9:30 Hawaiian Daylight HFE 2:00 Heure Francais d'Ete HFH 1:00 Heure Francais d'Hiver HMT 3:00 Hellas HST -10:30 Hawaiian Standard IDLE 12:00 International Dateline, East IDLW -12:00 International Dateline, West IST 5:30 Indian Standard (also Israeli Standard) IST 2:00 Israeli Standard (also Indian Standard) IT 3:30 Iran ITA 1:00 Italy JST 9:00 Japanese Standard JT 7:30 Java KST 9:00 Korean Standard LIGT 10:00 Melbourne, Australia MAL 8:00 Malaysia MAT 3:00 Turkey MDT -6:00 Mountain Daylight MEST 2:00 Middle European Summer MET 1:00 Middle European MET DST 2:00 Middle European Daylight MEWT 1:00 Middle European Winter MEX -6:00 Mexico MEZ 1:00 Middle European MSD 3:00 Moscow Summer MSK 2:00 Moscow Winter MST -7:00 Mountain Standard MT 8:30 Moluccas NDT -2:30 Newfoundland Daylight NFT -3:30 Newfoundland NOR 1:00 Norway NST -3:30 Newfoundland Standard (also North Sumatran) NST 8:30 North Sumatran (also Newfoundland Standard) NT -11:00 Nome NZDT -11:00 New Zealand Daylight NZST 12:00 New Zealand NZT 12:00 New Zealand PDT -7:00 Pacific Daylight PST -8:00 Pacific Standard SADT 10:30 South Australian Daylight SAST 9:30 South Australian Standard SET 1:00 European -- Prague, Vienna SST 8:00 Singapore Standard (also Swedish Summer and South Sumatran) SST 7:00 South Sumatran (also Swedish Summer and Singapore Standard) SST 2:00 Swedish Summer (also South Sumatran and Singapore Standard) SWT 1:00 Swedish TST 3:00 Turkish Standard UT 0:00 Universal UTC 0:00 Universal Time Coordinated WADT 8:00 Western Australian Daylight WAST 7:00 Western Australian Standard WAT 1:00 West African WDT 9:00 Western Australian Daylight WET 0:00 Western European WET DST 1:00 Western European Daylight WST 8:00 Western Australian Standard WUT 1:00 Austria YDT -8:00 Yukon Daylight YST -9:00 Yukon Standard ZP4 -4:00 UTC + 4 hours ZP5 -5:00 UTC + 5 hours ZP6 -6:00 UTC + 6 hours
