So is the VM/CMS I am typing this on.  I sometime apply uuencode to binary
files so that I can use kermit transfer without the silly prefix code. It
seems to be faster (to me anyway.)  Good thing is that we have a PC connected
to the VAX @9600 baud + Zmodem.  I get about 920 bytes/sec downloading
binary stuff such as fish disks.
