Try Apple Roots by Andrews, MacGraw-Hill. The prodos 8 technical Reference
manual is also a must have. A sound knowledge of Pascal will help, C would be
better in many cases. 

(Pascal to teach structure, C to familiarize with indirection, I found it
easier to read C pointers than Assembler Direct Indirect addressing (Dumb name
for the addressing mode IMHO))
