Most times this error message is given, the file /usr/lib/X11/Xconsoles doesn't
exist or doesn't contain proper information. It should contain the a line with
a '*' character. Please check it and try to start the program again. Note that
the permission of the file must be 444 (read-only) and that owner and group
are bin/bin.

Although you wrote that the LAN isn't used now, be sure the LAN cable is
terminated properly.
