Until you mentioned it, I had forgotten about the infamous squeeky CDC drives Compaq put in their early 386's. The solution was to "cut off" the ground contact. That's what my dealer told me to do and I did it to about a half dozen. It worked and so do the drives years later. Still too small though. I don't know if this will cause a problem on other drives.
