Subject: System 7.0 and system 6.0.x can't cooexist?

I've updated my Mac IIcx to system 7.0, but there are some programs that
I use once in a while that don't work with it.  Is it possible to keep
6.0.x on my disk and use the system switcher to switch between them
as I need?  I've just tried this, but the system swticher was not able
to find the old system.  Am I doing something wrong or is this just not
possible?
