See if it implements "link integrity", which made its way into the 10BASE-T spec in Feb 1990 (according to the change page I have here). If not, it won't work and you may be due a free upgrade if they promised you a 10BASE-T-compliant product. Some concentrators also have an "automatic rollover" feature which switches the T/R pairs when they've been connected backwards (but you say you've checked that...).
