When the user is in some package other than USER, and does a META-CNTRL-ABORT, the machine goes back to the USER package each time, the first few times. However, after a couple of dozens of these, it stays in the package the user was in previously. What is the variable that controls this threshold and can I safely change it? 2. I can change the various beeps that the listener, zmacs, etc generate, but I'd like to change the beep that the X11 window system generates (things like xbiff for example). I have tried setting all the different beeps that could be it, but it didn't work.
