Well, I'm willing to comment on just about anything, I suppose... CompuServe's V.32 nodes have MNP5 and V.42bis compression. Supposedly, it will actually connect with these. However, it is useless, because the port speed is locked at 9600, to avoid flooding the backbone network. So, it really doesn't help to use the compression -- yet. CompuServe _is_ planning to upgrade their backbone links (9600s become 56/64kbps, 56k become T1, T1 become T3, etc.). When that is done, they plan to increase the port speeds to at least 19200, maybe 38400. To avoid the need to replace the modems then, they went ahead and bought modems with compression NOW.
