The strange thing is that there IS a correct drive parameter table buried in the BIOS; it just isn't used. The problem exists in Award BIOS v2.00 but is claimed to be fixed in v2.30 and later. I wouldn't know. :-) It's possible (and even fairly simple) to rewrite the boot sector to avoid this (the thing's only 512 bytes long!), but I'd recommend trying to find a replacement BIOS, if possible.
