Is it possible to add a standard SCSI disk (Maxtor 700MB or HP 680MB)
to an IBM R6000 with one internal 300MB drive? Does the disk have to be
specially formatted or partitioned?

Yes - the HP 680MB drive certainly can be added without any special      
formatting or partitioning. Just follow the normal SMIT proceedure.
