Most comercial services using X.400 offer also Telex and FAX as bodytype. (I have list of 20 KB, but in respect, that his list is feed into the USENET I don't dare to post it) regards Rainer --------------------------------------------------------------- Send-date: Wed, 24 Apr 1991 15:56:28 UTC+0100 From: Urs Eppenberger Subject: X.400 -> FAX/TELEX Gateway Dear SWITCHmail user, the Swiss PTT has an operational X.400 -> FAX/TELEX gateway service. With SWITCHmail your are able to use it following the addressing rules below: 1) Addressing of FAX-subscribers ----------------------------- X.400 address: C=CH ADMD=arcom X121=9+(country-code without 00 + fax-number incl. area-code) RFC822 address: /X121=9+(country-code + fax-number)/@arcom.ch 2) Addressing of TELEX-subscribers ------------------------------- X.400 address: C=CH ADMD=arcom X121=8+(country-code without 00 + fax-number incl. area-code) RFC822 address: /X121=8+(country-code + fax-number)/@arcom.ch 3) Examples -------- Example for a fax-subscriber in Switzerland: C=CH;ADMD=arcom;X121=94131627035; .....------ fax-number ...-- area-code for Berne .-- country-code for Switzerland - code for fax-delivery /X121=94131627035/@arcom.ch Example for a fax-delivery to Washington in USA: C=CH;ADMD=arcom;X121=912024290514; ......------ fax-number ...-- area-code for Washington .-- country-code for USA - code for fax-delivery /X121=912024290514/@arcom.ch Example for a TELEX-subscriber in Switzerland: C=CH;ADMD=arcom;X121=845941030 ...------ TELEX-number .-- country-code for Switzerland - code for TELEX-delivery /X121=845941030/@arcom.ch 4) Important notice: ----------------- - Country codes as well as area-codes (city-codes) are needed without leading '0's - arCom 400 fax cannot receive fax-messages. Due to this, please give instructions to the receiver of your messages how to get back to you. - maximum line-length is 80 characters (letter-wrapping!) - supported alphabet is IA5, similar to US ASCII. - The FAX gateway generates a front page reflecting the header lines of the email message. This information is often useless to detect who was the sender of that message and who is the receiver. Please indicate in the body of your message very clearly the intended recipient and identify yourself as the sender similar to a standard postal letter head. - Users on the RFC822 part of the SWITCHmail network (using domain addresses) could have problems reaching the FAX or TELEX gateway by the address indicated above. In case of problems contact your local postmaster. Many gateway software is not able to handle it correctly. (-> Use X.400 instead :-)) A mail from a user within a SWITCH member site through the FAX gateway is billed by SWITCH as if the recipient would be a non SWICHmail member. (However Swiss PTT charges SWITCH differently according to the destination of the FAX.) We start with that policy and monitor the use of the gateway service. Hoping you enjoy the additional functionality, Urs Eppenberger, SWITCH Head Office
