ABSTRACT: The Kerberos Authentication Service, developed at MIT, has been widely adopted by other organizations to eliminate the trusted-host problem in open networks. While a step up from traditional security in networked systems, Kerberos version 4 is not sufficiently flexible for some environments. These inflexibilities and the remedies introduced with the Kerberos version 5 are described. Refer entry: %K KrbEvol %A John T.
