Didn't Sun provide your system with ``screenblank''? Perhaps your system operators can add that program to the SunOS startup file (maybe in /etc/rc.boot or /etc/rc.local). Until recently, I turned off my monitor on Fridays; I wish I didn't have to turn up on weekends to finish my projects!
