I have received several (prompt) replies about the slow diskless node
w/ 8MB.  Consensus is:
* 8MB is marginal for a color Xterminal, inadequate for diskless node
* 16MB is barely enough for a diskless node running hp-vue, 24MB or
32MB is useful.
* The monitor program from hpcvaaz.cv.hp.com tells you what your
system is up to.
