"Dirt Cheap Drives" [(800) 872-6007] advertises the following adaptec
controllers...
1520     AT,SCSI                       $149
1522KIT  AT,SCSI,Floppy,Cable,Software $160
1540B    AT,SCSI,Bus Mastering         $259
1542BKIT AT,SCSI,Floppy, Bus Mastering $279

From which I would  ***GUESS*** that some people are quoting you
the 'bus mastering' version and others aren't.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about Dirt Cheap Drives beyond what I
read in their ad, am not associated with them in any way, not even
as a customer, and don't (yet :-) use scsi.
