OK, let's assume that you can't access it through an alias (but shouldn't aliases be handled by System, and not by Finder???). The next logical, albeit painful, step would be to have two copies. One in Extensions, and one in System Folder. If they truly are identical, then it shouldn't matter if there are two of them, should it? Of course, it would be a major pain to have to start keeping two copies of things around (yuck).
