What eventually happens is that the machine hangs ignoring all input from keyboard or mouse ("Cannot attach to ToolBox"). The frustrating part is this is happening essentially every reboot---it happens for no apparent reason, and I have to either reinstall _everything_ to get it to work _or_ doing something incredibly trivial like delete a file that shouldn't have any effect.
