The lines you saw are similar to the "streaks" left by aircraft in the sky. I notice the same thing with my .22-250 on muggy summer days. The trail comes from the high pressure at the front of the bullet followed by the lower pressure behind the bullet. This creates a very long "cloud". Want proof ? Try taking a coke bottle, and putting a small amount of water in the bottom. Take a lit match and drop it into the bottle. Now blow as hard as you can into the mouth of the bottle, and then release it quickly. The bottle should be filled with a "cloud". Neat, eh ? Adults should get the permission of their kids. John
