While you both are at school, you're both residents of that state.
(Yes, you can be a resident of multiple states at one time.)  So, if
you do the transaction during school time in that state, the only
obstacles will be that state's law.

I have no idea what you have to do to take your guns back to the Land
of Lincoln, assuming that you go to school in another state.
