Per the previously-mentioned articles from the NYTimes and Chicago
Tribune:  some of the information there and here on the list dealt
with Gallo and the source of his specimen.  Originally he had claimed
quite vigorously that it had come from a US AIDS patient.   If you
missed it, there has been a great deal of ink in the last day or
two to his admission that he received it from a lab in France.
(methought he protested a little too much to be telling the truth)
