So I bought a modem in hoping that I could dial out to Compuserve and connect to the database vendor through Compuserve. To my surprise, I could not dial out. Since it was a brand new modem, I didn't suspect it to be the culprit. So I called the telecommunication department and was told that the telephone line the modem connected to was a digital line and modem would not work on a digital line. The person on the other end of the line suggested me a piece of equipment which would work on a digital line just the same as a modem would work on an analogue line. My question is: does anybody know what the name of the equipment is? How does it differ from a modem in terms of signal processing? Thanks in advance for any reply. Chou
