Type 3 was Adobe's sop to non- registered type developers and individuals. Type 1 is encrypted & I think compressed in the same process allowing smaller and faster trans- mission & output. It also has some slightly different specs on numbers of BCP's, I think, than Type 3. All in all Type 1 is effectively the best PS standard across Macintosh.
