Message-ID: <64454D1A42FF208017@vaxsar.bitnet> Date: 6 Jun 91 23:11:00 GMT Sender: daemon@cs.rochester.edu (Old Scratch) Organization: Computer Science Department University of Rochester Lines: 31 X-Envelope-To: comp.lang.postscript@cs.rochester.edu X-Vms-Cc: JAFITZWILLIA X-Vms-To: IN%"comp.lang.postscript@cs.rochester.edu" A few questions for the experts from a humble PS diddler: Why do straight quotes come out curly? That is, the test file /inch {72 mul} def /Times-Roman findfont 24 scalefont setfont 1 inch 8 inch moveto (bleah') show showpage prints a typesetter's single close quote for the straight one. I tried this with several of the standard LW+ fonts on both a LW and an HP LaserJet with a Postscript cartridge. I also tried using \047 and got the same result. Capturing PS from a Microsoft Word file containing both styles of quote, I found that \324 and \325 were used for the curlies as one would expect, and simply ' for the straights. Is this something in the Laser Prep? Possibly related question: Postscript generated by the LW driver always uses font names like /|______Times-Roman, which seem to be set up or associated to the regular names by the Laser Prep. What is that for? I wasn't able to unravel the definitions in the LW Prep to determine what exactly it was doing. Thanks in advance. Please mail but don't use reply; I had to go through another site to get this to post. |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Questions made/opinions expressed are mine, not the College's unless stated.| |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | James M.
