I am looking for a public-domain version of the familiar "compress"
utility for use on VAX/VMS systems.  The key here is that it must
preserve VAX/VMS file attributes across compression/decompression.

For extra credit, it would be desireable if it interoperated with the
UNIX version of compress, but that is not strictly necessary.
