Not so. The reason the 8088 was used in the IBM PC was that IBM had seat a deadline on getting the PeeCee out to market. Intel & Motorola were comming out with the 8088 & 68000. IBM was backing the 68000. But due to IBM's deadline on the PeeCee, they could not wait for the 68000 to be out in full production. The 68000 was only out in small sample quantities.
